The first ever “West Auckland Town Vs Gown Cup” was played last night. The four person Avondale College team (who are the winners of the West Auckland Secondary school competition) took on the top 8 of Waitakere Chess Club. Two rounds of rapid play (25 + 5). Avondale College won the match and thus the 2019 cup 5-3.
Waitakere Chess Club plan to make this an annual challenge between West Auckland’s only chess club and west Auckland’s secondary school champions.
